Painting with Jennifer Orkin Lewis (August Wren) and Gayle Kabaker

Yesterday afternoon I had the pleasure of painting with two illustrators that I admire very much and have followed for a long time: Jennifer Orkin Lewis and Gayle Kabaker. We have in common a love for gouache and for drawing faces and the human body. It was really fun to paint together during the two hour session, which went really fast. These are the works that came out, all in gouache on paper.

Ieri pomeriggio ho avuto il piacere di dipingere insieme a due illustratrici che ammiro moltissimo e seguo da tanto tempo: Jennifer Orkin Lewis e Gayle Kabaker. Abbiamo in comune l’amore per la gouache (tempera, guazzo) e per il disegno di volti e corpo umano. È stato davvero divertente dipingere insieme durante la sessione di due ore, passate davvero velocemente. Questi sono i lavori che ne sono usciti, tutti a gouache su carta.

A small note: this workshop has been also an excellent starting point to find out more about the materials used by both illustrators, who answered all the questions about it. Jennifer uses traditional gouache and acrylic gouache, while Gayle uses only acrylic gouache. As it happens, I ordered my first acrylic gouache set a few days ago, and now I literally can’t wait for it to arrive! I’m very curious to try it, maybe to work on the #OneWeek100People challenge that takes place this week! 👇

Piccolo appunto: questo workshop è stato anche un ottimo spunto per scoprire di più sui materiali usati da entrambe le illustratrici, che hanno risposto a tutte le domande a riguardo. Jennifer usa gouache tradizionale e gouache acrilica, mentre Gayle usa solo gouache acrilica. Il caso vuole che io abbia ordinato qualche giorno fa il mio primo set di gouache acrilica, e ora non vedo letteralmente l’ora che arrivi! Sono molto curiosa di provarla, magari per lavorare alla sfida di #OneWeek100People che si svolge proprio questa settimana! 👇
