Life drawing with model Andrea

I’m in Italy at the moment and, between one thing and another, I managed to squeeze in the monthly life drawing session with the Draw group. The model was Andrea, whom I’d never drawn before. I don’t have all my materials here, and this time I couldn’t bring them because I travelled with hand luggage only (and I’m not even sure you can take oil paints in a suitcase or am I wrong about that?), so I ended up drawing with just one old, very worn brush and some black ink. It really is true that sometimes the most interesting results come from constraints: working only in black and white, and unable to go into much detail because of the state of the brush, I felt less pressure to think about the finished drawing. I focused on the shadows, which were very visible in the session, and on raw line work. Here are the results, photographed rather than scanned, because I don’t have a scanner here either!

Sono in Italia al momento e, tra un impegno e l’altro, mi sono dedicata a recuperare la sessione di life drawing mensile con il gruppo Draw. Modello Andrea, che non avevo mai disegnato. Qui non ho tutto il materiale e questa volta non ho potuto portarlo perché ho viaggiato con il solo bagaglio a mano (e forse non è neppure possibile trasportare colori a olio in valigia, o mi sbaglio io?), ergo mi sono ritrovata a disegnare con un solo pennello vecchio e molto rovinato e dell’inchiostro nero. È proprio vero che a volte i risultati più interessanti arrivano dalle sfide: lavorando solo in bianco e nero e non potendo andare nel dettaglio troppo per via del pennello rovinato, mi sono sentita meno costretta a pensare al dsegno finale. Mi sono concentrata sulle ombre, che si vedevano molto bene nella sessione, e sulle linee grezze. Ecco i risultati, fotografati perché qui non ho neppure lo scanner!
