♠️ Salon of Diúltaíodh ♠️ at GalleryX Dublin

In 1863, a group of artists rejected by the official Paris Salon gave life to something unexpected: the Salon des Refusés, a space where refusal became revolution, and exclusion sparked a new way of seeing art.

That rebellious spirit lives on in Salon of Diúltaíodh – Salon of the Rejected, an exhibition curated by Ishmael Claxton at GalleryX in Dublin, bringing together works turned away by institutional spaces, including the RHA Summer Show 2025.

My Portrait of Andrew was one of those rejected pieces, and I’m genuinely delighted to see it find a place here instead, among works that don’t quite fit the mould, made by artists who embrace complexity, contradiction and all things not-so-easily-boxed-in.

The show opens on Friday 25 July, from 6 to 9 pm, and I’ll be there (coming down from Belfast!) to celebrate with everyone.

Nel 1863, un gruppo di artisti rifiutati dal Salon ufficiale di Parigi diede vita a qualcosa di inatteso: il Salon des Refusés, uno spazio dove il rifiuto si trasformava in rivoluzione, e l’esclusione diventava un nuovo sguardo sull’arte.

Quello stesso spirito ribelle vive oggi nel Salon of Diúltaíodh – Salon of the Rejected, una mostra curata da Ishmael Claxton presso la GalleryX di Dublino, che riunisce opere respinte dagli spazi istituzionali, tra cui la RHA Summer Show 2025.

Il mio Portrait of Andrew è una di quelle opere rifiutate, e sono sinceramente felice che trovi spazio qui, accanto a lavori che non si lasciano facilmente incasellare, creati da artistə che abbracciano la complessità, le contraddizioni e tutto ciò che sfugge alle categorie.

La mostra inaugura venerdì 25 luglio, dalle 18 alle 21, e io ci sarò (in arrivo da Belfast!) per festeggiare insieme.
